Master in Business Law

Suriname is in a process of modernizing, which requires strengthening of its institutions. The legal system is a most important institution, and its strengthening requires enhanced understanding of the rule of law in general and of the dynamics of those aspects of the international legal system to which Suriname is exposed. Because of recent oil discoveries off the coast of Suriname, the relevance of the MBL program is obvious and critical. New activities will be subject to aspects of international law that govern the focus areas of international business and they extend to new territories and domains like concession contracts, trade and transport, joint venture agreements, governance of state-owned enterprises, financial markets, and the sustainability imperative. The MBL program is conducted in cooperation with the University of Maastricht (UM). National accreditation is provided by Nationaal Orgaan voor Accreditatie (NOVA) and international accreditation is being pursued.

The mission of this Master Program is to educate students to become successful players in the field of business law. When graduating from the Business Law Master, students will not only have procedural and substantive legal knowledge, but will also have gathered relevant skills, such as writing and research skills. The program is conducted by FHR School of Governance, Law & Humanities in cooperation with The University of Maastricht (UM).
